Friends and Colleagues:

I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels like this challenging school year would never come to a close. But, here we are and the end is finally in sight! We now begin the process of wrapping up the year with hopefully some type of spring concert, preparing for graduation and taking care of all the end of the year tasks. Take a moment to reflect on one of the great things about being a band director, as we are ending one school year, we are preparing to start the next which hopefully will be closer to, if not totally back to normal. A great way to assure a good beginning for the coming school year is to make plans to attend ABA in Little Rock this summer, July 28 thru 31.

ABA is an awesome resource for teachers and and a great place to learn new ideas to use in your program. This year will be no exception. We have an excellent line-up of clinicians that are sure to charge up your battery for the coming school year.

Some highlights of this year's convention:
-Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser - keynote address & clinics
-Richard Saucedo
- marching and concert clinics
-Randall Standridge
- Conducts Phi Beta Mu Reading Band & clinic
-Kris Berg
- Conducts ARJE Reading Jazz Band & Clinic - Improving your Jazz Rhythm Section
-Rick Ghinello - two clinics
-John Caldwell - "Play It Again Arkansas" - A conversation with Marvin Lawson
-Mary Alice Hughes - Financial and Retirement Planning, Clinic

In addition to these and many more clinics, you will have the opportunity to hear some impressive musical groups. First, on Wednesday, the 106th Arkansas Army National Guard Concert and Jazz Bands will perform for the J. Raymond Brandon Kick-Off Concert. Then, the Friday night feature concert will highlight the Seraph Brass, who will also present a clinic Saturday morning.

Unfortunately, ABA won't be totally back to normal this summer. Here are some changes for this years convention.
Due to Covid-19 there will be NO CHILD CARE provided at this years convention.
2.    Due to low participation there will be No Golf Tournament.
We will have to follow whatever guidelines are in place during the time of our convention at the Doubletree and Statehouse Convention Center.

Also, I encourage all of you to Pre Register to streamline badge pick-up as well as minimize congestion in the registration area.

Remember, all of our clinics & concerts count as official in-service hours. More info coming soon about door prizes, they're still ok! So, if you get the opportunity gather up one or two, that's always fun.

One last thing: Not only is ABA a valuable source for in-service but it is the place for all levels of instrumental music professionals to come together to share ideas, renew old friendships and to make new ones.

I look forward to seeing all of you in Little Rock, have a great summer!!

Dear ABA Spouses,

I hope this letter finds all to be well as we are wrapping up another school year!

I am so excited that we will be able to have an in-person ABA for 2021 and July 28th will be here before we know it!  This will be my 25th year to attend as the spouse of a band director and I am so honored to serve on this committee.  I have enjoyed each and every year of reconnecting with everyone and being able to visit and share our band adventures. These are all treasured memories to me! I hope that each of you are making plans to attend ABA in Little Rock, July 28-31!

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, we will not be able to provide child-care, but I will have a list of some fun activities located near the hotel that you can do with your children.  And, some are FREE!
We will be making a BDK picture again this year, day/time is TBD around our activities.

Registration will open on Wednesday, July 28th at 11 a.m. and close at 5 p.m.  Spouses are invited to attend a clinic on Financial and Retirement Planning with Mary Alice Hughes at 4 p.m.  The J. Raymond Brandon Kick-Off Concert will be a 7 p.m. featuring a performance by the 106th Arkansas National Guard Concert and Jazz Bands.

On Thursday, July 29th, Dr. Tim Lautzenheizer will kick off ABA and will give his Keynote Address from 9:00-9:25 a.m.  We will have a Dutch-treat lunch at 11 a.m. and due to multiple requests, we will once again craft at Little Rock Board and Brush at 2 p.m.  There will be online registration /payment directly with Board and Brush, I will post the link on our spouse Facebook page once everything is set up.

On Friday, we will have a historical tour at a nearby site and I am planning for more fun!

The annual banquet will be Friday night at 6 p.m. with a concert by Seraph Brass to follow.

And, remember your door prizes!
