Dear ABA Spouses, It’s hard to believe that it is the time of year to start making our plans to attend the Arkansas Bandmasters Association Convention July 27-30 in Little Rock. Spouse activities will begin on Thursday, July 28 with a trip to the River Market on the River Rail for some shopping and lunch on your own. After lunch, you will have the opportunity to create your own jewelry with Tami Jones. On Friday, July 29 we will travel to the Clinton Presidential Center for a tour and lunch at Café 42. The special program is “Elvis at 21, Photographs by Alfred Wertheimer.” See striking images of Elvis in 1956 before he exploded onto the national scene when he could sit at a drugstore lunch counter alone. Tour the gallery of other Elvis collections from Graceland and Chase Art from Chicago. Transportation to and from the Clinton Center is being provided by Little Rock Tours. At the conclusion of our trip to the Library they are also offering a 2.5 hour driving tour of Little Rock which includes the Governor’s Mansion, Quapaw Quarter, Central High School and the Old Mill in North Little Rock along with other interesting landmarks. The cost of the tour is $25 and details will be available at the registration table at ABA. For those with children we will again provide babysitting on Thursday and Friday. Please note that while we provide lunches for the kids, we are not able to meet specific allergy requirements (we will attempt to keep peanuts out of the rooms). Please provide an alternate meal for your child if he or she has any food allergies. The kids always seem to enjoy themselves and it’s fun to see them renew their ABA friendships.
